Muhammad, the Leader | 622CE – 632CE | The Birth of Islam Episode 03

Posted By on January 4, 2020

Leaving their homes behind Muhammad and
his small band of Muslims migrated to a new city without anything to their names.
No property. No money. No protectors but their most prized possession, faith. This
is where everything about Islam and Muhammad changes. First of all, Muhammad wasn’t just a
preacher or prophet anymore. He was, now, something of a political
leader, a statesman. Not exactly a king but I’d say an Emir, which is like a duke. Secondly, at this point the revelation of
the Qur’an changed dramatically. Before, in his 13 years in Mecca, the revelation
mostly talked about concepts of Islam; Oneness of God, Heaven Hell and Stories
of the past prophets but now, after the migration, the revelations were very
different. They talked about legislation, warfare, every day states issues and
their solutions. It really indicated the shift in Muhammad’s life. This is where
he becomes different than most prophets, for, most prophets didn’t have a realm
to govern. In June, 622 CE, Muhammad and his friend Abu Bakr arrived in the Yathrib. Yathrib was almost immediately renamed to Madinah an-Nabi meaning “The City of the Prophet”. Shortened to Medina. Muhammad’s immediate challenge was trying to
integrate the migrants or the Muhajirun into Muslims of Medina, the Ansaar. There
were also pagans there but they slowly converted to Islam and never became a
problem for Muhammad. The biggest minority was the Jewish people. They
mostly lived on the outskirts of the city in their own forts which also
served as blacksmith workshops. they made weapons which was their financial
backbone. Muhammad saw the Jews as “People of the Book”. Since they were also an
Abrahamic faith, Muhammad considered them an ally. In fact, at this point, Muslims
prayed facing Jerusalem same as the Jews. during it for his first year in Medina
Muhammad drafted the constitution of Medina
this document outlined laws that was served to turn the
from people and tribes of Medina to unite under law first of all it declared
Medina a harem just like Abraham declared Mecca a harem
this meant that no one who agrees on the Constitution will conduct any bloodshed
in Medina especially Muslims to this day his condition stands secondly all the
tribes and communities living in Medina will face no interference in their
religion from another community this was especially for Jewish minority the most
important Clause was that if one community of Medina is attacked by an
outsider all the communities will band together to defend them no community
will help an outsider or even support them against a community of Medina
lastly it declared that all internal disputes in Medina will be resolved by
Mohammed which was why he was invited to Medina in the first place
this document brought the groups together to make them strong meanwhile
the number of Muslims in Medina was rapidly growing he settled the
Muhajiroun with the insult by pledging them to support the Mahajan financially
if possible but the ants are happy to do but not everyone in Medina hold a farm
so economically they weren’t very well during the first year Muhammad started
construction of almost an ugly the mosque of the Prophet it was to serve as
a place of worship a community center and as headquarters to the Muslim
community all of the major decisions from this point on will be taken in this
mosque meanwhile in Mecca the Meccan seized the properties of Muslims who had
left from Medina this understandably made Muslims very angry and they began
to see Brady as justifiable action Medina while not a trading hub itself
was on a major trade route between Mecca and Jerusalem the Muslims economically
weak started raiding about one and a half year of the hijra in 623 CEO Mecca
and caravan coming back from Palestine a lot of riches and weapons I might never
afraid that Muhammed might ring and take those riches and weapons so they
informed mechons of this and mechons tired of Muhammad taking their money
dispatched an army of a thousand men meanwhile Muhammad planning to only raid
a caravan brought some 300 or as mostly said in tradition 313 men the caravan
changed a route but Muhammad’s raiding party met the Meccan army had but this
commenced the Battle of Badr Muhammad’s army was seriously outnumbered
how to dock however thanks to divine intervention or just mama being a
brilliant general Muslims won the battle they fought back in armies thrice their
size and Megan’s were humiliated by this and would come the Vengeance in the year
or two this battle was a display of a couple of things first of all Muslims
weren’t as weak as they look secondly the unsought side by side the
Mahajan even though technically the answer didn’t have any beef with the
Meccans this showed a community that was truly United in the sickness and enemies
soon after this battle Muhammad expelled a Jewish tribe called bonne organic Oh
Muslims these days say that a Jewish jeweler had molested a Muslim woman
which escalated to violence some sources say that this is not true at all instead
Muslims just wanted to get rid of bone organic ax because Muslims perceived
them as a threat anyways after seizure for two weeks banana kaaya surrendered
and were expelled in 624 C about a year after bothered with similar
circumstances our Muslim army of about 700 men met a Meccan army of about 3,000
Meccans had one goal to win back the prestige to have lost at bomber muslims
well like pirates they wanted to live raid but in a bit of a civilized manner
so the Battle of all had commenced early on Muslims were very good methods even
began to retreat Muhammad had put some archers to defend a passageway that led
to the rear of the Muslim army as the meccans began to retreat these archers
thought they had won the battle the passageway opened and jalapeno buddy
took some of the Macan cavalry to attack Muslims from the rear
remember that me part of the drug money he became one of the strongest weapons
in a Muslim Arsenal a few years later Muslims suffered heavy losses but
fortunately for the Muslims the Magdalene party was already breaking due
to low morale and they couldn’t do the kind of damage that this would have
allowed them the Muslims retreated Muslims lost this battle but they did
enough damage to the Meccans that they couldn’t move to destroy the Muslims and
capture Medina Muhammad himself was injured and his uncle Hamza even optimum
Lib was killed in the battle around a year after this battle in 625 Cee
Muhammad received a divine revelation that a Jewish tribe but now there was
trying to kill him so he invaded the tribe and expelled them from sin is
expiring Jews was sort of becoming a celebration ritual for Muslims two years
after this in 627 seen five years after the hit off the Jewish tribe an organic
ax and banana that whom Muhammad had expelled allied themselves with the
Meccans to take Medina a confederacy of multiple Arab tribes also joined an army
of 10,000 members raised against Medina Muhammad called on his council to decide
what to do Medina didn’t have any walls to protect it from invasion so it was
going to be difficult to defend it multiple suggestions were passed but the
one that was most acceptable muscleman the persians suggestion to dig a trench
around midi on three sides Medina had rocky mountains and trees which were
difficult for an army to march through especially ten thousand men so the
Muslims just had to secure them all inside and they were ready for a siege
all able men over 14 contributed to digging the trench in just six days
Muslims harvested their crops early to ensure the Meccans wouldn’t be able to
replenish their supplies Medina was struck by a famine but through all this
the Muslims held on because their survival is at stake the meccans and
their allies arrived outside Medina a trench was something they had never seen
before they were baffled and decided to wait
the Muslims out some troops did try to cross a trench but they were at a huge
disadvantage because French was ready the siege went on for
about a month while the siege was going on some Jewish tribes from the
Confederacy crossed the woods around Medina to meet with Banu Qurayza but as
I was pretty much the only Jewish tribe left in Medina abiding by the
constitution of Medina at the head even supported Muslim defenses by supplying
them with weapons and some digging tools however seen 10,000 men on the horizon
they were scared Jewish leaders from the Confederacy persuaded them to attack
Muhammad from the insult Muhammad found out about this an Arab leader named
named emer Massoud had secretly can order to Islam and Muhammad asked him so
descent in the Confederacy Naima Massoud first went to the bonapartism he told
them that the Confederacy will not hesitate in battle and should the siege
fail and Muhammad will show them no mercy the Banu Qurayza agreed with him
and backed off offering the Confederacy’s their support if they
handed over Confederate leaders as hostages
Naima Massoud then went to Abu Sufian even HAARP whose last name means son of
Warren I really liked that I was a fan was the leader of the magazine killed in
the Confederacy Lane told him that the Banu Qurayza had backed off and they
wouldn’t support them named Eden Massoud intrigued was successful the Confederacy
was starting to break eventually they abandoned siege this was a huge
victory for Muslims and keeping to their tradition of expelling Jews after
victory Muslim did more than expelled Banu Qurayza Muhammad due to Banu
Qurayza is betrayal during the siege invaded their
strongholds their siege went onto for about 25 days before they surrendered
now this next part is very controversial Muhammad handed over the judgment of
Banu Qurayza to saad IBN want a muslim convert who was a former ally of the
tribe and is said to have possessed a lot of knowledge of Jewish Scripture he
ruled that all the men of Banu Qurayza be killed women and children be enslaved
and their property divided among Muslims Muhammad agreed to it and even said that
a Last Judgment for Banu Qurayza is the same as that of Saud
the judgment was a massacre killing hundreds of men some might say how could
a prophet stand behind this but here’s the thing about Muhammad in the way he
governed he always resolved issues passed judgment by the involved parties
faith if two Jews came to him to resolve a conflict he would look at their
scripture not the Quran this judgment the Banu Qurayza one was not
historian Martin links in his book Mohammed is life based on the earliest
sources points out that this verdict came from the tirana me 2011 to
Deuteronomy 2013 which reads if they accept your offer of peace and open
their gates all of the people there will become forced to laborers to serve but
if they refuse to make peace with you and wage war against you lay siege to
their city when the Lord your God has delivered it to your hands you must
strike down every male with the sword now I don’t really know much about
Jewish and Christian scripture so you should certainly google it and do some
research yourself if you’re into it anyways by this warning sound 600 to 900
men were beheaded and all the women and children were enslaved afterwards there
was peace for a while let’s move on in 628 seee Muhammad and his companions
wanted to make a pilgrimage to Mecca which as you might remember was a common
thing with Mecca being home to Kaaba to be holy shrine that he Brandon Belt so
Mohammed along with 1,400 of his fellow Muslims headed to Mecca even though they
had no weapons but some swords Megan feared that this might be an invasion so
they sent emissaries to talk to Muhammad eventually this led to a tree called the
treaty of hudaibiya it had a couple of points first of all Muslims would return
this year and come back the following year for pilgrimage and the mackins
would evacuate the city and move to the mountains for the duration secondly
there was a truce for 10 years no mekin would hurt a Muslim and no Muslim would
hurt a Mecca this would also apply to the allies of both parties this point is
gonna be important later finally if a Megan runs away to Mohammed II she shall
be headed back to Koresh but if a Muslim runs away from Mohammed to Mecca the
same will not be done this treaty indicated a couple of things
first of all Mohammed was no longer a rebel or fugitive basically Makin’s were
admitting that Muhammad and his people were a state like Mecca itself fully
independent second that Muhammad faith Islam was indeed an Arab
it wasn’t rejecting the Kaaba it wasn’t rejecting Mecca sacred status also now
that macarons were admitting that Medina was indeed an independent state
they couldn’t hurt Muslims still living in Mecca so all those Muslims could
openly practice their faith in Mecca the Quran called it a great victory actually
the next year 629 seee muslims suffered a terrible defeat after his peace with
Megan’s Muhammad reach out to rulers around the world he wrote letters to
people like the Byzantine Emperor Emperor Heraclius and the the Persian
Shah host ro the second one of these letters was headed for the governor of
Basra all the way the Muhammad’s emissary was killed by an official this
was an insult of the highest degree basically it was a declaration of war to
kill an emissary so that year 629 see Muhammad sent a small army of about
3,000 men under the command of his adopted son said the expedition was to
punish the local tribes but when the army arrived in lapa they found a
Byzantine army waiting for them the numbers were around 10,000 or so
naturally as you might expect outnumbered and outgunned Muslims
suffered a lot of damage Zedd himself died during the battle
after two more commanders the command landed in the hands of how did not
believe the same man whom Muslims had suffered terribly from during the Battle
of fault he had now converted to Islam Khalid ib’n Alwaleed managed to retreat
without sustaining more damage it was a terrible defeat for Muslims and from
Muhammad himself as he lost his son said at his cousin’s offer even Abu Talib in
the same battle but the next year 630 C was a year of victory so there was a
clause in the shooting of an idea but the meccans that there will be truce for
10 years and it would apply to their allies as well however that year
Bernbach allies of the Koresh attacked bonacasa
allies of the muslims when the news reached muhammad he was furious Quraysh
sent their emissaries to Muhammad immediately urging him to stick to the
tree but Muhammad believed that really had already been violated so he gathered
an army to march on Mecca Mahmoud called on his
allies and raised an impressive army of 10,000 his plans weren’t even clear to
his commanders he was going to use the element of surprise when they reached
Mecca he organized his men to make them appear to be more than they actually
wore I was a found him in Horeb the leader of the Quraysh tried his best to
defuse the situation without fighting but Muhammad had had enough he divided
his men into four columns for each entry point into Mecca one of these columns
under the command of Khalid ib’n Alwaleed
entered through the northeast entry point there was some skirmish from the
hardcore anti Muslims but mostly there was no bloodshed and Muhammad tried his
best to avoid fighting because Mecca was after all a harem and spilling blood
there was forbidden it is to this day as well Muhammad had finally taken to Mecca
eight years after he left his home helpless he came back as a conquer most
Americans converted to Islam Muhammad ordered that no one who lays his weapon
must be heard except those who try to disrupt the peace this was Muhammad’s
triumph I speak to you in the same words as Youssef spoke to his brothers this
day there is no reproof against you go your way for your free moment forgave
everything all the torture all the killing everything even forgave the
murder of his own people his own family he’s a monk Oh
after this Muhammad said on to conquer the entirety of Arabia but there was
another threat Muhammad heard of an invasion by the Byzantines who have
moved to intercept he raised an army from all over Arabia some 30,000 men her
dad to his first battle the Battle of Badr just seven years earlier when he
had only 300 men under his command Muhammad and his army marched towards
the book in the north of Arabia he stayed there for some 20 days made
allies with local chiefs but as it turns out the news of byzantine invasion
wasn’t true however it did serve a purpose it showed
the world that Muslims warned free they weren’t weak and they were willing
in 632 CE a few months after his pilgrimage to Mecca a Hajj and his
farewell address Muhammad fell ill he suffered for several days with head pain
and weakness on Monday 8th of June 632 CE II in Medina at the age of 62 or 63
in the house of his wife Aisha with his head resting on Aisha’s lap Muhammad
closed his eyes for the final time with his death Islam was complete Medina
controlled all of Arabia becoming a power to threaten even the super powers
of the era after his death ensued a crisis of succession see you next time

  1. Deuteronomy 20 does indeed authorize killing all males in war, even after a surrender, but this is specifically only against polytheists in the time of the conquest of Israel. (Verse 18 gives the reason: "so that they may not teach you to do all the abhorrent things that they do for their gods, and you thus sin against the LORD your God.") I don't think any Jew would claim this is valid in a war against other Jews. Still, you're right that this verse may have inspired Sa'd ibn Mua'dh's verdict against Banu Qurayza, even if most Jews would call this a misuse of scripture today.

  2. 1)What about the battle of Khaybar ? 2) Acording to some sources the Meccans had also had some Christian Ethiopian allies(meccan sources) mostly volunteers !! But I and many scholars believe that they were most probably mercenaries who were bought from Yemen and Ethiopia ( Muslim sources).Btw great video n where a 're you from.

  3. The only source regarding the Banu Qurayza incident comes from Ibn-Ishaq's Sirah, which is not a reliable source because Ibn Ishaq takes stories from any source leaving the reader to judge it's authenticity. This incident is not in the Quran or in any of the Hadiths, nor do Jewish historians record this incident at the time (7th-13th century AD), though they record the Abbasid Caliph expelling them from Arabia. Ibn Ishaq source also claims that the Jews were then buried in Madina, however archeological evidence does not corroborate any of this.

The figure 900 is also suspect, because Josephus gives the figure of 960 people being killed at the Roman siege of Masada- in fact the entire Banu Qurayza incident is framed like the siege of Masada- with a fort being besieged, though the only difference is that the defenders didn't commit suicide- which is suspect because if they knew they were going to be tried by Old Testament laws, they knew their fates were sealed- why bother surrendering?

  4. Muslims, well like pirates, they wanted to live and raid. But in a civilized manner. lol. I don't think that's how it(civilized) works. It sounds like they jest wanted revenge for their loss of Mecca.

Thank you though. Very educational and interesting. Keep the videos coming please.

Qafa Vinak Ziqra Min Ulumin Tav Aseru

    Kaluban Ayattul Hawa Va Tazakkaru

A man who has spent all his life in sin and immortality and has wasted away his life in passion and fury,

Va Tazakeroha Audan Elalvadae Lilvara Valuk

Yane Zatulla He Yom Tab Aseru

If he repents in the end and wants to return to morality, is there a way for his redemption?

    Va Ahlolaha Azahu Armiman Mahadev

O Manazel Ilamuddine Minjum Va Sayattaru

Even if only once he sincerely worship Mahadev, he can attain the highest position in the path of righteousness.

Va Sahabi Keylam Feem Qamil Hinde Yoman

    Va Yaquloon Latahazan Fainnak Tavajjaru

Oh Lord! Take away all my life and in return pray grant me even a single day’s stay in Hind (India) as a man becomes spiritually free on reaching that holy land.

    Mayassayare Akhalaqan Hasnan Kullahum

    Najumum Azaat Summ Gabul Hindu

By dint of a pilgrimage of Hind a man attains the merit of noble deeds and gets the privilege of pious touch with ideal Hindu teachers.

He is a shame & a black spot on humanity & religion. The world is suffering terrorism because of his wrong teachings. It's a Wake up call to all to undrstand the fact.

  19. Jesus Christ came to the world preaching the word of God, denying any social status by the Jews to make him the King of Israel.
On the other hand, the false prophet came preaching the word of 'God', which he got after receiving 'relevation' in a cave (or just drafting stuff in the cave?), was repulsed by the locals in his new career and fled, came back with an army to conquer and kill, went on developing his new religion to be as warlike as possible, claiming Christianity and Jewish heritage to attract them at the same time condemning them to hell.

Tell me, which is the religion of peace? Look at the 'founder' of the religion instead of the followers they say.

  27. You don't need to understand Jewish or Christian scripture to understand use of Deuteronomy 11-13 was an abuse of scripture which Muhammed clearly did not understand. Verse 10 sets out this is at the beginning of a planned war, not surrender..
This, proof Muhammad pretended he knew "the book" when he did not and so did not get divine guidance or inspiration and by definition therefore could not be a prophet and was simply a war lord, albeit a cunning one.

In regards to the first jewish tribe you mentioned, the muslim scources never indicate a habit of expelling jews. The expelling of the banu kaynuka for instance was done as a reaction to the hostility shown by them.
Aside from this, I found the video informative.

  39. There are a few mistakes here. Sassanian Yemen was nominally at least a Muslim territory by the point before the conquest of Makkah. The Persian governor had converted to Islam and abdicated the area to Muslims though they had no control since it was taken over by Arab rebels. Regardless Persian Yemen was dissolved. Also I'd like to point out that the emissary of Muhammad was sent first after the violation of the treaty demanding the Quraish cut off ties with the tribe or pay blood money. When this was refused Muhammad went to war. Other than that the rest aren't errors but they are interesting incidents nonetheless that are omitted. The Battle of Hunain and the seige of Taif and the later expeditions to destroy the Arabian idols. This video makes it seem like Muhammads troubles were over after Makkah and he somehow just swept over the rest of Arabia just like that. Other than that a valiant effort at cataloging this though I think you're somewhat embarrassed by what you may perceive as your own Muslim bias.

You should have used the most common representation of the prophet's flag of a white background and two palm trees on it but even that flag is unauthentic as the Muslims did not use flags at the time but rather colorful banners with verses of the Quran inscribed on them.
