Filthy's Civ6: Founding a Religion and Choosing Religious Beliefs

Posted By on July 23, 2019

heyguys filthy robot here bring another guides tips and tricks video this time we're going to be talking about religion and civilization 6 so let's get to it we have previously talked about Pantheon but we need to cover that very briefly first I'm not going to talk about their strengths today but I'm going to talk about how they work when you found a Pantheon all of your cities will acquire that Pantheon it doesn't matter if you've founded cities before getting your Pantheon or got your Pantheon after founding cities it makes no difference all of your existing cities will immediately acquire your Pantheon when you've found a Pantheon additionally your Pantheon is with you for the rest of the game it doesn't matter if you ever found a religion it doesn't matter if all your cities get pressured out by another religion so if all your religions adopt another player's excuse me all your cities adopt another player's religion doesn't matter you still keep your Pantheon that means you can't spread your whip your Pantheon to opponents and your opponents cannot spread their Pantheon to you which means that the Pantheon is actually gotten a boost in power in the base gained in civilization 6 compared to civilization 5 in the sense that you can never you don't need a religion to take advantage of your Pantheon for the whole game which means you should be choosing very carefully when you choose your pantheon because they're going to be super powerful and with you for the entirety of the game alright once you have your pant down selected we'll just pick one you are now the the method to get a religion is you need to accumulate great profit points not faith like civilization 5 you accumulate a faith you got enough faith you got a profit that's not how it works in Civilization 6 in Civilization 6 you need to accumulate great profit points you can check your great people points on the great people tab you go over to the prophets and it's going to be you know your number per turn is going to tell you right now I have 0 great profit points per turn and it's going to show you your progress I have 0 of 30 but if I were accumulating great people points it would tell me something like let's say 5 out of 30 or something so you can calculate how many turns is going to be to get that like other great people you can make up the remaining difference so if you need 30 great people points and you have 25 great people points those 5 great people points that you're missing can be made up for by spending faith or gold for a one-time purchase to make to make up for that difference and get the great profit earlier so you can use faith or gold to get a religion faster but dhruv but there's not a direct link between faith generation when prophets spawned prophets spawn off of great people points so it's an important distinction between civilization 5 and civilization 6 all right unless you have spawned a great prophet you move it either to Stonehenge which is this wonder here or you move it to your holy site once you have you know spawn the great prophet and also founded your Pantheon p.m. Pilate pantheon you can't activate disha and you click on found religion when you do that you're going to be offered to choose your religious icon and if you choose one of the existing ones you can't change the name if you change one of the these extra icons that don't actually associate with an existing religion you can name it whatever you like which is we're going to call this glorious cattle ism and there we are we have glorious cows in the religion you're going to be prompted to pick two beliefs one from this first page and this would make perfect sense if these were the founder beliefs because your founding a religion it makes sense that the first belief you pick would be the founder belief but it is however not at all how this works these are actually follower beliefs and you're going to pick out of these you're going to choose one follower belief beliefs are exclusive to the religion and competitive with other religions in other words if I pick up work ethic and my religion any other religions that are founded cannot take the belief work ethic it's gone from the pool of available beliefs to other pit people can pick and then you're going to be prompted to pick one belief from the second page now the second page it would also make sense that this was another category of religious beliefs but it's not these are actually three categories of religious beliefs mixed into here and they're exclusive for example if I pick up I'm going to go into this a little bit more depth in just a minute but just take it that they're not all the same so if you take meetinghouse see how all these buildings there's a wat pagoda synagogue mosque meeting house cathedral good water big whare I guess it is all of those are one category of belief and if you pick up one of those it's going to a remove it from the pool for everyone and be prevent you from picking up another one in that same category and it's really easy to see how the categories live together because there's actually a screen in the game under the civil pedia that will help you with that it's the religious screen and when you get to the religious screen what you can see is there's actually four types of besides pantheon so you're going or Pantheon is permanent there's four types of actual religious beliefs is the worship beliefs the follower beliefs the founder beliefs and the enhancer beliefs okay so when you found your religion you're going to pick one follower belief so we are talked about that those are the ones we saw there and get to pick one of these followed ways and you get to pick one belief from any of the other three categories you can take one from the worship leaves one from founder beliefs or one from the enhancer beliefs so when your religion is founded you get your pantheon you get two beliefs one of which has to come from the follower beliefs and one of which can come from any of the other three categories other yeah the three categories you're going to have two more opportunities to add a belief to your religion so your religion can eventually have pantheon plus follower belief plus one founder belief plus one enhancer belief plus one worship belief and that's the total number of tenants your religion can have to enhance the religion to add extra tenets to your religion to go past the two plus Pantheon that you get to start with you have to do something code evangelize your religion the only unit in the game that can evangelize a religion is an apostle apostles can be generated either from wonders or from purchasing them with faith so again faith generation does matter in terms of getting Apostles out you can only purchase an apostle in a city that has both the holy site and a temple in that holy site so to get out Temple you need holy site shrine and temple so if you're wondering how do I get more beliefs in my religion that's the way to do it and that will give you a so let's just take a quick look let's grab something grab some beliefs here found the religions what I want to show you is the religion tab you can then later on you can look at there'll be religions listed up here for all the religions that have been founded in the game and you can look at the tenets of the religion and you can see how it has two more locked beliefs each of those correspond to one more evangelize for the religion so it's going to take me to apostles when I when I train when I purchase with faith two more apostles and evangelize with them that will give me the total number of beliefs my religion can have which is four plus the Pantheon all right that's how it works as a system so I just want that kind of out there for people of these guys are supposed to be new be friendly and that hopefully will be quite useful for players who don't understand how to found religion and how to make the more tenets for that religion I'm not going to talk much about religious spread this game but what I do want this this video excuse me but what I do want to do is talk through the is religious options available and how powerful or weak they are to play with so let's go down to the religious system and let's go through it quickly so we've already done the Pantheon's in a different video let's take a look at the we're going to start with a follower belief because these are the ones that you're first chosen with and then we'll go through the other ones together all world wonders provide for faith this is fairly weak as a whole you don't tend to build a lot of wonders faith especially as little as for faith isn't very much for faith is essentially less than a holy site holy site itself is going to be planted often for one to two adjacency faith the shrine is to faith and temples I believe for faith which means this is essentially half of what a holy site will give you and it requires a world wonder / / this the only time I see this being particularly useful you see the a I do this a lot they'll build Stonehenge and immediately pick up our world wonders give you plus for faith yeah maybe alright but it's a pretty weak belief mostly because faith is not particularly useful and when it is useful then things like purchasing great people are purchasing military you want a ton of it you don't just want a little bit so you're probably not getting a ton of wonders you're probably not getting a ton of faith from this as better things to do with your initial follower belief feed the world shrines and temples provide food equal to the intrinsic faith value this means shrines are going to be – and I believe temples I guess we should look up temples right now just make sure that I'm not using false information on that I'm pretty sure temples are for yes temples are for so let's get on that so that means that means that that particular belief is going to be giving us to food and for a six food total in a in a city that has both the holy site a shrine in the temple it's again not very good food in this game is much weaker than it was in civilization five production is the the primary resource of interest in this game and you certainly don't want something that's going to give you a small amount of food later on in the game when you actually have time to build shrines and temples it's just not very impactful I'm sure there's situations where you may find it to be useful but mostly it's going to be pretty garbage a Jesuit education may purchase campus in theater Square districts of faith this is fairly interesting but also not that powerful theater squared districts aren't real good campus districts are real good but there aren't all that many things to build in them early what this does let you do which is unique is if you have decent faith generation and the mid-to-late game you decide you want to plant a bunch of extra cities to give you that little bit of oomph or culture or campus in other words are going to have small cities that you plant late in the game you're only going to be to build one or maybe two districts in and you want to build immediately the campus in theater square district and then purchase those buildings with faith in a way that will give that city more production than it abate to do otherwise then it can be a little bit more interesting than it would be otherwise my general take on this is although it looks pretty good this is similar to the Jesuit education in civilization five it's just not quite as good because you can't always get holy sites in time to do this and a lot of the times by the time you do get enough faith rolling to make this useful you've already built the at least some of the religious buildings in your cities this is a faith dump though you're going to find when you design your religions you should really think about what you're trying to get that religion to do for you as a whole if you want something that's going to you know if your goal was to do a military victory using religious purchased units from theocracy you may want a religion that generates you lots of faith if you are not planning on spreading your religion you may want a religion that gives lots of bonuses to your cities like production and growth or something like that your planning is spreading your religion to get a lot of gold because you want to take advantage of Tyler church property you may want your religion to give bonuses that are hard to activate so that you as a player focused on religion can get a lot of benefit out of it while your opponent's you're spreading it to who probably aren't focused on religion because if they were focused on religion they'd have their own religion not your religion but if they're not particularly focused on religion then they get no benefit from that so perhaps Jesuit education could be useful in that situation because you're not expecting your opponent's to have the faith to utilize this because they probably don't have the holy sites to do that to generate the faith to actually use that but in general I don't think disability is very good either you're going to hear me say that a lot this video I don't think this ability is very good or very impactful this that kind of that statement you're going to hear over and over and over again is why as a whole I summarized religion is pretty weak in civilization six most of the stuff that happens from religion isn't impactful to the game get your pantheon get a high culture pantheon if you possibly can get it early and then you can just forget about religion for a large part for most of the SIPPs that you're playing now there's going to be exceptions and some steps are better with religion than others but for large part you can pretty much ignore the mechanic and be alright especially in multiplayer all right let's take a look at this one shrine a temple is key to provide +1 housing it turns out housing is a hell of a lot more valuable than either to or for food this is one of my favorite pickups for the follower belief especially when you're just founding religion because if you're bothering with religion at all let's say you're playing Russia or maybe Japan and you're actually bothering with building holy sites for some reason because you have a plan for your faith this synergize is really really nicely with that it gives you the housing to grow your cities to make up for the fact that you had to build a frigging holy site now that's not an issue with Russia because Russia's holy site doesn't count towards their district limit but everybody else who builds it who builds a holy site has to deal with the fact that there are campuses commercial commercial hubs harbors industrial hubs all of which are better straight up better than the holy site and pretty much every time in the game and then additionally you have situation of things like encampments and things like that that are also in culture of districts that are likely to be better most of the time than holy sites the holy sites are really weak district as a whole so if you do choose to do them it would be very nice to have some immediate powerful games gains that you get out of the holy site and this is one of my favorite because transit temple housing is just a very getting extra housing in the early to mid-game allows you to grow cities competitively in a way that other players just can't do because housing is at a priority at a premium rather until neighborhoods it's hard to get housing for a large part in meaningful quantities and this is one of the ways to help do that reliquaries relics have triple-triple yield of both fate and tourism this is a hard one to use the timing on this is wrong if this were a belief that you could enhance into this might be powerful especially if you're playing someone like the Congo though the Congo can found a religion so they're never going to vote your choice at this which is hilarious because it's the only one that makes any sense for um but the biggest problem is relics are basically random there is some control over it with picking up a promotion on an apostle and then getting the apostle killed which by the way is terrible you don't want your apostles to die because every time they die they in an area of effect remove your religion so you certainly don't want them dying but if you do somehow find an area where you can send your apostles where they died to other religious units so that they're giving you the Relic and don't screw what you're actually trying to do in terms of mess up you're spreading of religion or mess up your only religion or your own religion in your own areas then this one could actually get you a couple relics and if you have a couple relics certainly the the additional yield of faith and tourism out that would be useful if you're going for tourism victory but holy is that hard to make put together and actually generate I think this is nearly useless this is probably one of the worst faller beliefs out there right now just because it's so hard to use this I guess if you already have gotten really lucky in the early game you picked up two or three relics in the early game you might get to do some sort of very early tourism push with it because you're going to be getting extra tourism out of nowhere essentially but man it's just gotta it's so situational in which that occurs work ethic is your go-to generic pick if you have nothing better sticking out to you production is by far the most important resource in the game at the moment and a having additional production is nice the problem is religion passively spreads very very slowly in this game and your cities don't tend to get as big as they did in Civilization five and in Civilization six it just tend to be smaller cities in general so this production per follower isn't quite as useful I believe it caps out at fifteen percent still I'm 100% certain on that I'm pretty sure it still caps out on how much production it will give you I think at a certain point it just doesn't give you any more but a lot of times your religion might be your city and it might be it might be assuming your city might have your religion let's say you have a ten pop city and you just spread your religion to it not all 10 population points in that city are of that religion which means you don't get 10% production you get the production percentage equal to the number of guys in that city who are actually your religion and that's almost always less than the total number of citizens in that city so even this one is worse than it initially reads because oftentimes you don't have that much of a bonus Zen meditation plus one amenity in a city with two speciality districts this is a something like a second or third pick for me if my top three out of this are going to be religious community work epic Zen meditation what I like about Zen meditation is this is very easy to trigger you don't have to build holy sites and lots of cities to get this to help lots of your cities it's just plus one amenity in every city that follows your religion that has at least two specialty districts which is going to be every one of your specialty or your cities the bonus itself isn't that great amenities aren't that hard to get and there's lots of ways to do it but it can be a nice little bonus to get this because it's so easy to get for your cities anyways so that's my kind of take on the follower follower beliefs we're going to move on and we're going to now go back to the worship please because remember for whatever reason when you found a religion you don't get a founder believe if you get a follower belief and that's the first one you pick all right the second part of that religion that you found it gives you the choice between all of the worship beliefs all of the founder beliefs and all of the enhancer beliefs you can never have to of any of these categories so what if you enhance your religion twice with the I guess is evangelizing your religion twice so you have exactly four tenets in it you're going to have one pick out of worship please why not a follower one out of founder and one out of enhancer so when you choose your worship belief you should look they're all relatively similar power there's a couple that would point out these are the easiest ones to talk about Cathedral gives you three faiths and one work one slot for religious art that's okay if you're going tourism otherwise you'd never pick this up religious arts sometimes a little bit challenging to get a hold of just because not all artwork is considered religious artwork and this will only take religious artwork to hold but having extra slots especially early in the game if this were if this were writing it this where our writing slot this building would actually be pretty decent because you have too many writers in the game I relative the number of slots you have for writers when you're going tourism and writers arrive very early in the game much earlier than artists do I don't find this building to be very good um gurdwaras are plus three food plus plus three faith plus two food again I don't think very much of food as a resource in Civilization six so this one is okay but not great I don't think most of times this is going to matter one way or the other the meetinghouse gives plus three faith and plus two production this is one of my favorites because production is really really good okay so three food two production the mosque is three faith and missionaries and Apostles give plus one spread this is very powerful for a religious victory if you're trying to spread religion where you need a million Apostles and missionaries to roam around the map converting everything it's pretty much useless in multiplayer because a multiplayer they're going to kill your missionaries if you get close to religious victory but maybe you have some other non victory based condition for spreading religion like you want to get the gold from tie their church property maybe this would be useful then pagodas we talked about how much I value housing I think +1 housing is very decent and if you combine this with the the follower belief of religious community yeah then what you're going to end up is 3/3 housing for every holy site that you build a shrine a temple in ash trying temple imput goto end and that is a hell of a lot of housing which will allow you to get your cities much bigger that's an entire extra district on top of what people without this religion are going to be able to build synagogue this is a decent one if you're doing some sort of faith purchasing strategy we're actually building holy sites in all of your cities and then you could get maybe 5 or 8 maybe up to 8 more of these and all likelihood which is going to give you an additional two extra faiths on top of that but two faiths is not super values or valuable as a resource I still think even on a purchasing based strategy the production and science is probably better than the extra two faiths but there is at least a reason why you might want this particular bonus and then finally the wat if I had to put them in order I would probably put something like the wat pagoda and the meeting house all roughly equal and everything else quite a bit below them science is probably the second most valuable resource after production in the game right now so therefore a building that gives you that is going to be quite nice something to worry about something to think about when you're building these worship belief buildings there's two ways you can get these buildings first of all the verses you the first is that you purchase them with faith and the second is you construct them with production with hammers either of those are ways you can do that but in both of those scenarios you have to have already existing in that city a holy site a shrine in a temple if you don't have those those those prerequisites you can't build these buildings which means it's really annoying particularly for someone like the Congo who can't actually build a holy site so they can't get a shrine or temple it's really annoying when religions that have these buildings show up in your area or if you like thought early well I'm not going to do much with my religion but I could just purchase one of these in my capital right now and I just get the two science from now on or the two production would be awesome I could use my faith for that no no you have to build a temple first so just be aware that these have a temple requirement built into them alright let's talk through the founder beliefs these are church property I'm the founder beliefs I believe and I think these are the only ones where this is true I believe these only apply to the actual founder of the religion so if you spread this to another player they're not going to get too gold for following for each city following this religion the exception is of course Congo who has a special ability that means he also gets your founder beliefs if you have a majority of your religion his cities but in general these beliefs only apply to you whereas all the other beliefs apply to everyone who has the religion in them I'm not entirely sure about enhancer beliefs on that but we'll get to that in a minute pennyways church property to gold for each city following this religion it's pretty self-explanatory whereas in step five tithe was generally a little bit better in church property and sip sticks I found the opposite to be true most the time to tie this one gold for every four followers to this religion the break-even point of course is therefore eight followers so if a city has eight followers they make equal if it has more than eight tithe is going to be better instead five it was a total number I believe following it not total number per city so if you had five in one city and then like five in the next city five the next city five next city that would actually be you know five fours is twenty to actually get five gold even though they weren't in intervals of four I don't know if it works out where it doesn't work that way in this game but something to think about but just in general Church properties going to be better for you because cities grow a little bit slower in this game they don't tend to get as big as quickly and by the time you actually get a bigger city converted it probably was just better to have spread it earlier and spread it to a smaller city church property tends to be a little bit better than private in my opinion and it's a pretty decent pick there's not a lot of great pics in the founder belief category and this is quite a decent one lay administrate each holy site or theater square district in this in a city following this religion provides one faith or one culture respectively no one cares about disability whatsoever you don't build theater school districts unless you're going culture and if you're going culture tourism victory excuse me you have a ton of culture already so no one cares about this same with the faith one faith is just not a meaningful yield off of anything so no one cares about this one papal primacy tight bonuses from city states following your religion or fifty percent more powerful these are the plus to the plus twos that you get from the city so a science city-state gives you plus two in your capital and plus two in every city with the campus so what this means it will give you plus three and your capital and plus three with every city in the camp with a campus per per level so at level the tier two bonus is you know to to science to each city with campus and the the Tier three bonus is another plus two science each city with the campus I think this one is actually fairly powerful but it's only powerful if you can spread your religion to a number of city-states around you and you're getting those bonuses from those city-states and of course those are going to be better with this these days to give you better bonuses so the production ones the science ones to the gold ones this is some degree it's a decent bonus if you can if you're in a position I think this is going to be situationally useful situationally powerful as opposed to situationally you might get some benefit out of it I like it but I tend to not pick it very often still pilgrimage I think this one is fairly useless plus two faiths for every city following this religion other civilizations city-states the only time this is going to be this is going to help you snowball if you're spreading religion to win a religious victory but of course in multiplayer that's going to be very hard to do and the AI pretty pretty aggressive about spreading their religion everywhere too you're probably not going to get a lot of benefit out of it out of this and if you are if you are getting a lot of benefit is probably because you're already so dominant religion that you didn't need it in the first place stewardship each campus or commercial hub in a city followings religion provides plus one science or plus one gold I don't think much of this I don't think it's a very big yield but these at least are the districts that you will actually bother building and you'll bother building them very early you will be building commercial hubs are the most important district in the game and the campus is a another very very important district and getting more of the yields that come out of those not so much for the gold the gold one is not so important because you build Commerce hubs for trade routes you don't actually build commerce hubs for gold the gold is a nice byproduct that helps carry you through the mid game in terms of promotions in terms of going to war but you actually build commercial hubs for the production and food that you get out of trade routes but name is I digress a little bit so that that portion isn't that powerful in plus one science per city really isn't that much that means probably in all likelihood you're getting at max somewhere to like eight to twelve cities maybe a little bit more if you're using an unmonitored in the game where settlers are dirt cheap still so you're probably not getting a whole lot of yield out of this although it's okay tithed we've already spoken about is basically a slightly worse Church property and work church is one culture for every five followers of this religion in other sibs this means it doesn't count yourselves whereas tithe and church property also include your cities Road Church does not I think on a one-to-one basis culture compared to gold culture of course much more powerful than gold on a one-to-one basis but it's still very very difficult to get this triggered your your cities are smaller every one cities are smaller in this game by the time you can spread this you're probably not getting the passive so in Civilization five you could found a religion very early prioritized very heavily and spread it with a couple missionaries and it would take over the world because you had so much passive pressure so early when there was no contest it seems to be for whatever reason the the religious spread the passive religious spread just from pressure in this game is much slower which means anything that really gives you advantages for having religion and other people's civilizations is worse and this is one of those this is just worse this is not a very good one in my opinion again it's going to be awesome in that scenario we're just about to win religious victory in those last five terms where you have everybody except that one said you need to win and you're getting like 20 culture turn you're like this is glorious but it's just a win more at that point if you really managed to spread your religion to every city in the game we can get these bonuses yeah okay it would be great then but it's it one more it's not going to help you get to the point we actually need to win I think it's total I don't recommend it whatsoever alright I was finished up here we have the enhanced er beliefs I'm a little less sure how these work in the sense that I'm not sure who gets these so this one I'm a particular combat units gained 10 combat strength when within the borders of a friendly city that follows this religion these he'll like bonuses that are only applied to the person who founds the religion but I'm not entirely sure about that I'm not sure that you guys will let me know this way something we learned together things like defender the faith and where is it justified war whatever is called oh in Civilization five only really applied for the person who founded the religion so my suspicion is only the person found religion get this but this one first of these is crusade yeah combat unis game Plus combats 10 combat strength near foreign cities that follow this religion this can be very nice time combat strength is a very decent combat strength bonus you can especially since you can add this last because it's an enhancer belief and there and it's not a follower belief fall our belief remembers the one you have to pick first you can enhance into this later you can evangelize later into this you can spread the religion to your opponent where he's like sweet I got a religion it has a couple bonuses in it that's cool my opponents wasting some of his resources to spread it to me and then later on you can add you can evangelize in two plus combat strength right before you go and kill him I like it I don't think it's great but it is nice for a little bit of combat strength and it's something they're going to have if they don't have a religion they're not going to have any way to fight that so once it's in their cities and you're planning on attacking them and they accepted it because they don't have religion religion sucks in this game it's a really nice way to have a bonus that they weren't expecting Thunder the faith is great I love this one if I know I'm going to get attacked in this game or teamed this is something that gives me a combat strength bonus that they have a very hard time getting rid of quite like it for the same reason 10 combat strength is quite good it's just what are you going to do even being aggressive or you going to be defensive pull the order I like this one I like this one mostly because a lot of times I just want to get my religion finished and not have to worry about it again and I want to waste as little faith as possible for it this is also very powerful if you're planning on doing a lot of spreading but the downside of this the opportunity cost of issues you don't get another bonus now granted a lot of these bonuses suck and we'll talk through them so sometimes it's going to be like oh this is just the cheapest way to get the other bonuses that I care about but in that sense you could just not have bought an apostle for this particular evangelize and you don't have to you never have to finish your religion you could just leave your religion on to beliefs or three beliefs instead of having to pick four and once you know what beliefs are available total and you have those memorized you can look at other religions and see well if I enhanced defenders gone and Crusades gone the only thing I better pick are these other ones and I don't care enough so I won't even bother with holy order internet preachers religion spread 30 percent further away I believe the base distance is still 10 tiles so this means your religion spreads up to 13 tiles away missionary zeal our religious units ignore movement cost of terrain and features this is quite nice when you're spreading your religion everywhere in the world but other than that this is totally unnecessary it's just it's a greedy pick in the sense that it gives you some bonus that would be very inconsequential to the game but it doesn't make quality of life a little bit nicer when you have to move a thousand apostles around cannot convert the world for the religious victory monastic isolation the religious pressure never drops due to losses in theological combat this one is actually interesting I don't think I can't think of many uses for it but I suppose if you were trying to farm relics and you had picked that silly follower belief when I told you never to pick reliquaries where relics have triple yield of both faith and tourism and you were had you maybe had the wonder that lets you pick what promotions your apostle had and you were deliberately building apostles and suiciding them just to get the the extra relics then it would be nice that you didn't lose a didn't lose theological pressure to the theological combat but man that feels like we're really forcing a situation to make that occur so maybe it will be useful one day but it feels pretty useless most of the time to me you're not going to be losing a bunch of apostles in combat because the AI is terrible with their it's really easy to keep your units alive with that you just move them away when they're wounded and that that's it and vs. players is never going to be an issue because it's just not going to matter one way or the other finally scripture religious spread from adjacent cities is 25% stronger so you can think of that as a reduction amount of time it takes to spread your religion passively but it's so damn slow in this game that almost 99% of time you're gonna be spreading it actively anyways in other word you're going to be purchasing apostles or missionaries running them over and directly spreading your religion I don't think much of this ability at all it does get boosted once printing his research but I still don't care which makes the whole set of enhancer beliefs – the truth combat one's super super weak as a whole unless you're going religious victory which I basically will never be able to do in multiplayer ever but you know there is still a time in a place for the release victories a single player some of these will be a little bit better with those beliefs finally there is passive spread in this game your holy city particular spreads pressure I'm not entirely certain all these mechanics work I was very certain how they work since if five when I played those and I'm not so sure in Civilization six the things in particular that I'm not entirely sure about are do all cities exert pressure or just the holy cities the holy pretty cities seem to exert a different amount of pressure in civilization five you had an indicator of pressure on a city so you could see how much each city can exert it we don't have that in Civilization six right now some cities when you have the religious view open seem to pulse my expectation is those represent pressure coming out of them but not all cities seem to pulse so I'm not sure why some cities pulse and some don't it seems almost like it's trying to indicate that some cities pressuring and some are not if you read like Jerusalem's bonus where it's if you have the if your suzerain with that city it acts like it's a holy site holy city in terms of spreading your religion that again suggested it has some different amount of pressure than other cities instead five holy cities spread faster than non holy cities but they still spread but non holy cities still spread your religious pressure so I'm not entirely sure how that works as a whole but there is passive spread in this game it's just so so slow that 99% of the time you're going to be wanting to build active spread through apostle or missionary instead guys um as I promised you I was going to be a little bit harsh on the religious beliefs in there because most of them are pretty pretty damn bad most of the time the impact of religion in your Empire is going to be pretty minimal and I don't recommend investing a lot of resources into it however if you can get it cheaply than a small bonus that you invested very few resources to get can be quite nice that's not a bad thing to do i don't recommend just ignoring it it's just I don't recommend really throwing your early game or putting all of your early game resources into rushing something that is not all that helpful for you actually actually Victor can do actual victory conditions versus particularly other players but also versus the AI if you're not going a religious victory condition anyways guys thank you very much for watching hopefully you enjoyed it did please hit me hit the hit me yes punch me directly next time you see me no no no if don't actually do that God subscribe to 1. For me it just says "all individuals of this type have already been earned" even though I have never gotten one in my game

  2. Fun fact: Peter The Great was actually hated by the old fashioned and traditional religious people of his time. His efforts to modernize the country scientifically and culturally were hated because he wanted to reform the eastern orthodox customs in Russia as well. Traditionally at the time all men were told not to cut their beards. This was especially the case with elites and rich Russians in general. He basically signed an edict forcing everyone to cut beards, or someone would show up and forcibly cut the beards. People looked ridiculous and backward with those disgusting beards.

  3. Why waste apostel to farm relics? Pick the Khmer. Their Missionaries have the Martyr Promotion by default. Team up with Kongo and trade your surplus relics with your ally. Khmer goes Religion-Cultue and Kongos becomes a production, food and gold powerhouse. Easiest 2v2 culture victory ever.

  4. Hi, Filthy,
Thanks for creating this guide. The local friend who got me to venture beyond the shallows in Civ 5 suggested I try for a religious victory next (in single player). Now I'll look for what else you've given us.

  5. All cities with Religion in them exert Religious Pressure. The issue is, it exerts ALL the Religious Pressures… not just the Majority. So you really have to 'cleanse' out other Religions, because they steal away some of your ability to Pressure.

Holy Sites add to this Pressure.

Religious Foundations spread at 4X a Holy Site… and there is something in the game that allows all your Holy Sites to pressure at this 4X rate.

So it's like 3 Tiers of 'Religious Pressure', at least from my understanding. Each Religious Citizen (which when few is WEAKER than a Holy Site, but when many is STRONGER), the Holy Site, and the Religious Foundation (Holy Site where the Religion was actually Founded, making the City a Holy City).

The major issue with Passive Spread is it only reaches 10 (to 13) Tiles, so you can only affect those surrounding you, and only their 1st Layer of Cities. These also happen to be the easiest for your to Conquest with War… to Passive Spread you MUST Conquest to constantly allow your Passive Spread to push out further, AND get your Religion in as many City-States for other Pressure Points… but then you risk someone just killing the City-State that you are no where near to defend.

  6. On Work Ethic: Isn't it 'Global'? I mean, it's a Follower Belief, so everyone Following your Religion gets it (and it's a good Tenet to induce other Civs in KEEPING your Religion). So my 8 Followers, and your 7 Followers… that's 15% Bonus Production for me AND you.

The point being I don't have to get all these Followers myself, and I alone won't be the only one to benefit.

So take a City State, especially if it fits your Play Style, and moreso if you are Suzerain… and give it your Religion. City States count 'as a City', and their Followers would count.

So now you have more Production for yourself, but ALSO your City-State has more Production to pump out more Units to defend itself and be a nuisance attacking those that mess with you.

It does suck if it caps at 15% though… it should clearly state that. Because the idea of eventually reaching a 100% or more Bonus to Production is INSANE, but that OP is countered by having to invest so heavily in Religion to make that happen in the first place (putting you behind in other categories… like Production). So while it seems insane, it is still balanced. There should be no cap, or a Major Cap at something like 100% (double Production)… or it should clearly state the Cap.

  10. Ok I love this game, but how do I stop the Bull SHIT religious invasion. As soon as I meet the AI, here come the missionaries. I am so sick of it. And when I ask him to stop, the only thing and I mean the only thing they say is "No No, it is for the best I assure you" so sick of it. I finally went to war and as soon as I figured out how to make piece, bam here comes the next waive. I even turned off religious victory and he still keeps coming. I FUKN hate religion in this game! I am almost about to stop laying it just for that. I can never get into the cool modern stuff because I have to switch gears and start a holy war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. I have a question about how to pursue with religion. In my current game as Rome rival Russia founded the first religion (Eastern Orthodoxy). Later I founded a bullshit religion which I have not given much consideration. Then I eliminated Russia keeping all of his cities including his more developed religion. Now I wonder what to do in furthering religious benefits. Am I now the founder of two religions? Which do I promote – Bullshit (Rome) or Orthodoxy (conquered from Russia?

  12. Mr Filthy,

You must DELETE this video now that I have seen it. It is WAY TOO helpful and I don't want any of my opponents I play with online to have this knowledge. Good job bro. Keep up the good work. Your vids on CIV are the best on YOUTUBE.

  13. if enhancer applies to followers as well, wouldn't it be a double-edged sword because it applies to both warring civs?

  14. I found an interesting bug/feature today. A cheap way to get a religious victory. I was playing a AI game vs deity. 2 of the AIs managed to kill the third and I converted one of them to my religion in the confusion. Then I went into the trade menu and gave every city but my capitol to the remaining player. My religion was then the dominant religion in his Civ and I won the game. The victory music started playing and I got the achievement, but the game locked up on the trade screen and I had to force quit the game. Pretty underhanded but also pretty funny. I'd like to see someone do this with Greece in multiplayer. You'd honestly have to beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

  15. "Feed the world" can be good if you cities lack food but have good production. Especially with Russia "Feed the world" is very good. +6 foods helps a lot if you have lots of tundra around your cities.

  16. So cavalry rules everything, balloons make tactical missiles out of artillery, religion is irrelevant etc etc… Might have to skip this game untill some sort of balance is formed. Hopefully it won't take 2 years.

  17. Enhancer beliefs improve the very religion itself. So basically it works for everyone, but has perks that benefit the founder more than the followers.

  19. Its so unlogical, that great prophets finish after all of them use for founding religion.Instead they should keep limiting religion numbers but continue keep spawning new great prophets after new eras.THey can give 1000 faith 2 envoys.More adjaceny bonuses i dont know perhaps extra faith from temples.Shrines give extra housing.I find it so stupid all of the great prophet + points are no use after you got one. They should keep generating.Dont you think so,it really annoys me.

  20. I'm not sure why Filthy says that religion in civ 6 is very weak compared to civ 5. It seems to me that most of the beliefs are identical to the ones available in civ 5 (tithe, divine inspiration, church property, itinerant preachers, scripture, jesuit education etc). I guess it has to do with the fact that passive spread has been nurfed. However it seems to me that active spread has been buffed and so you can still take advantage of those beliefs by investing into apostles a little bit. All in all, the religion mechanic and the beliefs don't seem so much different compared to civ 5. You can still buy great people (you don't even need to complete social policy trees to do that as you had to in civ 5), you can buy units, you can make money or science pretty much in the same way as you did in civ 5. So I wonder why he says religion is weak whereas he was a big fan of it in civ 5.
