>> A READING FROM THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL. THUS SAYS THE LORD GOD, I MYSELF WILL LOOK AFTER AND TEND MY SHEEP. AS A SHEPHERD TENDS HIS FLOCK WHEN HE FINDS HIMSELF AMONG HIS SCATTERED SHEEP, SO WILL I TEND MY SHEEP. I WILL RESCUE THEM FROM EVERY PLACE WHERE THEY WERE SCATTERED WHEN IT WAS CLOUDY AND DARK. I WILL LEAD THEM OUT FROM AMONG THE PEOPLES AND GATHER THEM FROM THE FOREIGN LANDS. I WILL BRING THEM BACK TO THEIR OWN COUNTRY AND PASTURE THEM UPON THE MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL IN THE LAND'S RAVINES AND ALL ITS INHABITED PLACES. IN GOOD PASTURES WILL I PASTURE THEM, AND ON THE MOUNTAIN HEIGHTS OF ISRAEL SHALL BE THEIR GRAZING GROUND. THERE THEY SHALL LIE DOWN ON GOOD GRAZING GROUND, AND IN RICH PASTURES SHALL THEY BE PASTURED ON THE MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL. I MYSELF WILL PASTURE MY SHEEP. I MYSELF WILL GIVE THEM REST, SAYS THE LORD GOD. BUT IT WAS IN 1969, THAT THE NORTHERN HALF OF ALABAMA BECAME THE DIOCESE OF BIRMINGHAM AND THE SOUTHERN PART OF ALABAMA, THE DIOCESE OF MOBILE. WELL, THAT WAS 50 YEARS AGO. SO, IN CELEBRATION OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THIS DIOCESE, OUR OWN BISHOP BAKER IS HAVING A EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS WHICH BEGINS TONIGHT AND CONTINUES TOMORROW. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO WATCH THE CLOSING MASS, OF THIS EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS WHICH IS 4:00 CENTRAL TIME AND 5:00 EASTERN TIME WHICH WILL BE TELEVISED LIVE ON EWTN. TONIGHT, FOR ALL OF OUR BIRMINGHAM PEOPLE, THERE WILL BE A EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION GOING THROUGH THE STREETS OF BIRMINGHAM. I BELIEVE THERE'S A CONFERENCE THAT STARTS AT THE BJCC AND AFTER THE CONFERENCE, THE EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION IS GOING TO STOP AT THREE DIFFERENT STATIONS IN BIRMINGHAM AND CONCLUDE AT THE CATHEDRAL AND THEN THEY WILL HAVE EUCHARISTIC ADORATION THROUGH THE NIGHT. SO, IN THANKSGIVING OF BIRMINGHAM AND THIS DIOCESE, PLEASE, TURN OUT FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL EVENT THAT BISHOP BAKER HAS BROUGHT ABOUT, AND TO THANK OUR EUCHARISTIC LORD, THANK OUR LORD WHO HAS LOVED US SO MUCH, THE LOVE OF HIS SACRED HEART THAT WE CELEBRATE TODAY. THE SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT THAT I WANTED TO MAKE IS THAT AT 8:30 CENTRAL TIME, SO ABOUT A HALF HOUR, 15, 20 MINUTES AFTER THIS MASS CONCLUDES, WE WILL HAVE THE ROSARY RELAY FOR PRIESTS. THIS IS A TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THIS EVENT WHICH WAS BEGUN BY WORLD PRIESTS. IT IS A GROUP CALLED WORLD PRIESTS. SO, THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, ON ALL SIX CONTINENTS AND HUNDREDS OF CHURCHES, THERE ARE ROSARIES BEING PRAYED AT THOSE CHURCHES FOR THE SANCTIFICATION OF PRIESTS. SO, WE'RE PART OF THAT ROSARY RELAY BEFORE THEY COME TO US, THEY ARE GOING TO BE IN PAKISTAN, KAZAKHSTAN, WISCONSIN, AND COMING HERE, AND DURING OUR PRAYING OF THE ROSARY, THERE'S GOING TO BE PEOPLE PRAYING IN IRELAND AND OTHER PLACES. THEN, AFTER THEY LEAVE HERE, THEY ARE GOING TO KENYA AND UGANDA AND YOU CAN WATCH IT LIVE ON THE WORLD PRIEST WEB SITE SET UP FOR THIS. SO, WE'LL BE TELEVISING THE 8:30 ROSARY AND WE WOULD INVITE YOU, OUR TELEVISION AUDIENCE TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT IN PRAYING FOR THE SANCTIFICATION OF PRIESTS ON THIS SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS. IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. >> AMEN. >> Father: I STUDIED FOR TWO YEARS AT ST. CHARLES BORREMEO IN PHILADELPHIA CONCLUDING MY THEOLOGY, STUDIES THERE. AND FATHER DENNIS CARBONARO WAS ONE OF THE PROFESSORS THERE, A GREAT PREACHER. I REMEMBER TWO OF THE STORIES THAT HE TOLD IN TWO OF HIS HOMILIES. ONE OF THEM, HE WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW HE HAD BEEN ASSIGNED, HE WAS AT THE PARISH AND I THINK THE OTHER PRIEST MIGHT HAVE BEEN SICK SO HE WAS COVERING ALL OF THE MASSES, SOMETHING LIKE, FIVE MASSES THAT DAY. AND HE HAD THE MASS IN THE EVENING. AND HE SAID, I WAS SO EXHAUSTED, I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS SAYING WHEN I WAS PREACHING. BUT HE SAID, AFTER THAT HOMILY, THIS WOMAN CAME UP TO ME AND SAID, FATHER, WHEN YOU SAID THIS, IT REALLY TOUCHED ME BECAUSE I WAS THINKING OF TAKING MY OWN LIFE AFTER THIS MASS. AND YOU CHANGED MY MIND THROUGH WHAT YOU SAID. SO, THE POINT THAT HE WAS MAKING TO US SEMINARIANS AT THE TIME WAS THAT, WE HAVE TO REALIZE THAT IT'S THE LORD WHO WORKS THROUGH US. IT'S NOT WE OURSELVES, BUT IT'S THE LORD WHO WORKS THROUGH US. EVEN IN OUR WEAKNESS. AND IN FACT, IN OUR WEAKNESS, BECAUSE AS JESUS SAID, TO ST. PAUL, MY POWER IS MADE PERFECT IN YOUR WEAKNESS. BUT THE SECOND ONE THAT I ESPECIALLY WANTED TO USE TODAY WAS A STORY THAT HE TOLD ABOUT WHEN HE WAS GOING TO THE SHORE ON VACATION. HE HAD SOME VACATION TIME AND HE WAS GOING TO GO TO THE SHORE. ON HIS WAY THERE, HE SEES THAT THERE IS AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT THAT HAPPENED. AND HE SAID, YOU KNOW, I DIDN'T STOP AT EVERY ACCIDENT ALONG THE WAY. BUT FOR SOME REASON, I JUST FELT COMPELLED THAT I NEEDED TO STOP FOR THIS PARTICULAR ACCIDENT AND ATTEND TO THE PEOPLE THAT WERE INJURED. SO, HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE FOUND OUT THAT THIS MAN, WHO HAD BEEN DRIVING THAT WAS IN THE ACCIDENT AND THROWN FROM THE CAR, THAT HE WAS LAYING THERE IN THE DITCH. HE WAS STILL ALERT. HE WAS STILL AWARE. FATHER DENNIS HAD HIS OILS, AND SO HE GAVE HIM THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK. LATER, HE CHECKED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. HE CALLED THE HOSPITAL WHERE THE MAN WAS TAKEN. AND HE FOUND OUT THAT THE MAN HAD DIED. SO, HE FOUND OUT WHEN THE FUNERAL WAS. HE ATTENDED THE FUNERAL. AND AS HE WAS TALKING TO THE MAN'S WIDOW, HE SAID SHE TOLD ME, YOU KNOW, HE WAS ALWAYS DEVOTED TO THE SACRED HEART. HE WAS ALWAYS DEVOTED TO THE SACRED HEART. HE HAD MADE THOSE NINE FIRST FRIDAYS OF HOLY COMMUNION IN REPARATION. AND WHAT WAS ONE OF THE PROMISES OF THE SACRED HEART? FATHER DENNIS SAID, WHEN I HEARD THAT, IT JUST STUNNED ME BECAUSE I REALIZED THAT THE LORD KEEPS HIS PROMISES, THE LIST OF 12 PROMISE IF'S YOU HAVE EVER SEEN THEM, THAT OUR LORD MADE TO SAINT MARY MARGARET ALACOQUE THAT I PROMISE YOU IN MY SACRED HEART THAT TO ALL OF THOSE WHO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION ON THE NINE FIRST FRIDAYS AND CONSECUTIVE MONTHS, SHALL PERSEVERES AND THEY DON'T DIE IN DEATH WITHOUT RECEIVING MY SACRED HEART. MY DIVINE REFUGE WILL BE THEIR SAFE REFUGE IN THIS LAST MOMENT. AND WE CAN THINK ABOUT TODAY'S GOSPEL, WHAT IS OUR LORD POINTING OUT HERE WHEN HE SAYS, IS SAYING THAT THIS GOOD SHEPHERD, HE LEAVES THE 99 BEHIND AND HE GOES AFTER THE ONE. WHAT HE IS SAYING, THAT THAT ONE COUNTS. THAT THAT ONE IS NOT JUST A NAMELESS PERSON AMONG THE CROWD. BUT THAT PARTICULAR ONE COUNTS. HE CARES ABOUT EACH AND EVERY ONE. HE CARED ABOUT THIS MAN WHO WAS THROWN FROM THE CAR, WHO WAS GOING TO DIE THAT DAY. HE CARED ABOUT HIM. AND HE PROVIDED FOR HIM BECAUSE THIS MAN HAD TRUSTED IN THE LORD'S PROMISE, THAT HE WOULD NOT DIE WITHOUT THE SACRAMENTS AND INDEED HE DIDN'T. BUT FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US, WE HAVE TO REALIZE THAT HE KNOWS US, THAT WE COUNT. THAT WE'RE NOT JUST A NAMELESS FACE AMONG THE CROWD. BUT HE IS CONCERNED ABOUT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US. IN TODAY'S FIRST READING FROM THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL, EZEKIEL IS GIVING THIS PROPHECY WHEN THE PEOPLE HAD BEEN IN EXILE FOR 12 YEARS AND SHORTLY BEFORE THIS SCRIPTURE PASSAGE WE HAD TODAY, EZEKIEL IS NOTIFIED, THIS MAN CAME FROM JERUSALEM, AND HE SAID, JERUSALEM HAS BEEN WIPED OUT. IT'S BEEN DESTROYED. SUDDENLY, THE TONE OF EZEKIEL'S PROPHECY BEGINS TO CHANGE. HE BEGINS TO TALK ABOUT RESTORATION. HE BEGINS TO TALK ABOUT THE LORD'S COMPASSION FOR THEM. AND WHEREAS, HE HAD REBUKED THE SHEPHERDS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THOSE THAT WERE ENTRUSTED TO THEIR CARE, NOW, HE'S SAYING, I MYSELF WILL LOOK AFTER AND TEND MY SHEEP. THEY WERE SCATTERED. SO, THEY WERE SCATTERED AND TAKEN INTO EXILE IN MANY DIFFERENT LANDS. AND HE SAID, I'M GOING TO GATHER THEM. I MYSELF WILL PASTURE MY SHEEP. I WILL GIVE THEM REST. THE LOST I WILL SEEK OUT. AND THE STRAYED, I WILL BRING BACK. YOU REMEMBER THE ACCOUNT LATER ON IN LUKE'S GOSPEL, JESUS ENCOUNTERS ZACCHAEUS, IF I DEFRAUDED ANYBODY, I GIVE THEM BACK FOUR FOLD. AND JESUS SAYS, SALVATION HAS NOW COME TO THIS HOUSE. THE SON OF MAN CAME TO SEEK OUT AND SAVE WHAT WAS LOST. HE'S A FULFILLMENT OF THIS PROPHECY OF EZEKIEL. I MYSELF WILL PASTURE MY SHEEP. I WILL GIVE THEM REST. THE LOST I WILL SEEK OUT. THE STRAYED, I WILL BRING BACK. THE SON OF MAN CAME TO SEEK OUT AND SAVE WHAT WAS LOST. SO, THIS LONG DESIRE OF THE PEOPLE FOR RESTORATION. BUT IT'S NOT JUST GOING TO BE THE RESTORATION TO THEIR LAND. THE RESTORATION OF JERUSALEM. IT'S GOING TO GO BEYOND THAT. AND THAT'S WHAT THE REVELATION OF THE SACRED HEART REALLY POINTS OUT TO US. YOU KNOW, THIS IS THE MF FIAT, OUR MOTTO, SHE GAVE US, THE LOST I WILL SEEK OUT, THE STRAYED, I WILL BRING BACK. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MOTTO THAT IS. AND WE PRAY THERE'S GOING TO BE OTHER YOUNG MEN TO JOIN US IN THIS GREAT WORK OF LIKE JESUS, SEEKING OUT WHAT IS LOST, BRINGING BACK THOSE WHO ARE STRAYED. BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST ESSENTIAL WORK, ENDURING WORK THAT LASTS UNTO ETERNITY. AND JESUS HIMSELF IS THAT ONE WHO HAS FULFILLED THIS PROPHECY, THIS LONGING OF THE PEOPLE. AND IT'S NOT JUST GOING TO BE THIS EARTHLY RESTORATION HOWEVER. IT'S GOING TO BE SOMETHING FAR GREATER THAN THAT. AND THAT'S WHAT WE REMEMBER IN THIS DEVOTION OF THE SACRED HEART. POPES HAVE WRITTEN ENCYCLICALS ABOUT THIS DEVOTION OF THE SACRED HEART. AND THEY HAVE SAID THINGS THAT IT REALLY SUMMARIZES THE WHOLE OF OUR FAITH. HOW IS IT THAT THIS DEVOTION SUMMARIZES THE WHOLE OF OUR FAITH? BECAUSE IT TELLS US TWO ESSENTIAL THINGS WHEN WE HAVE DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART. THE FIRST IS THAT THE INCARNATION HAPPENED. NOT JUST MAN SEARCHING FOR GOD TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHO IS GOD, BUT GOD HAS COME TO US. THE WORD BECAME FLESH AND DWELT AMONGST US, HE HAD A HUMAN HEART, A HUMAN BODY. THAT'S THE ONE ESSENTIAL THING THAT THIS DEVOTION TEACHES US, THE INCARNATION, REALITY OF THE INCARNATION. AND THE OTHER IS THAT HE LOVED US WITH ALL OF HIS HUMAN LOVE AND ALL OF HIS DIVINE LOVE. SAINT JOHN WHO RESTED NEAR THE HEART OF JESUS AT THE LAST SUPPER, WE COULD SAY HE'S THE FIRST TO HAVE DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART. HE WOULD POINT OUT, I'M AN EYEWITNESS, AND ON THE CROSS, I SAW THAT HEART OPEN AND BLOOD AND WATER FLOWED FROM THAT HEART. SO, HE'S GIVING THIS EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT. TODAY, WE HAD SAINT BONAVENTURE. AND SAINT BONAVENTURE IS SAYING, THE HEART OPEN AND THE IMPLOA AND WATER CAME FROM THE HEART AND THIS IS A SOURCE OF GRACE AND SACRAMENTS THAT WE RECEIVE. IN FACT, OUR PREFACE TODAY IS GOING TO BE SPEAKING ABOUT THAT TODAY. HE GAVE HIMSELF UP FOR US WITH THE WONDERFUL LOVE AND POURED OUT BLOOD AND WATER FROM HIS PIERCED SIDE, THE WELLSPRING OF THE CHURCH'S SACRAMENTS. SO, IT'S FROM HIS HEART, FULL OF LOVE FOR MANKIND THAT HAS OPENED UP, POURED OUT SO THAT WE CAN STILL BENEFIT FROM — THROUGH THE LIFE OF THE SACRAMENTS, LIKE WE DO THIS MORNING, IN RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION. SAINT JOHN WOULD WRITE, THIS ONE THAT RESTED NEAR THE HEART OF JESUS, THE FIRST DEVOTEE, IF YOU WILL, RESTED NEAR THE HEART OF JESUS, WRITES IN HIS FIRST LETTER 4:16, WE HAVE COME TO KNOW AND BELIEVE IN THE LOVE THAT GOD HAS FOR US. NEVER FORGET THAT! REFLECT ON THAT PASSAGE. WE HAVE COME TO KNOW AND TO BELIEVE IN THE LOVE THAT GOD HAS FOR US. JESUS, IN THIS PARABLE OF TODAY'S GOSPEL POINTS OUT THAT EVERY ONE COUNTS. WE'RE NOT UNKNOWN TO HIM. WE'RE NOT FORGOTTEN BY HIM. WE'RE NOT ABANDONED BY HIM. EVERY ONE OF US, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US COUNTS. HE HAS FIRST LOVED US, SAINT JOHN WOULD ALSO WRITE. AND SO, IT IS THEN FOR US TO LOVE IN RETURN. HOW DO WE LOVE HIM IN RETURN? HOW WE LIVE OUT OUR DAY. DO WE LIVE A DAY OF PRAYER, OF GRATITUDE, DO WE LIVE A DAY WHERE WE ARE EVERYDAY TRYING TO LIVE IN ACCORD WITH THE GOSPEL. DO WE LIVE EACH DAY TRYING TO GROW IN OUR LOVE OF GOD AND OUR LOVE OF NEIGHBOR. AND LIKE HIM, TO SERVE, TO GIVE, TO BE GENEROUS, TO HAVE HEARTS THAT ARE OPEN, GIVING, LIKE CHRIST'S HEART WAS OPEN FOR LOVE OF US. SO, MY DEAR PEOPLE, THIS IS A FEAST OF GREAT CONSOLATION TO US. IT REVEALS TO US THAT GOD INDEED BECAME MAN AND DWELT AMONGST US IN THE INCARNATION. HE LOVED US WITH ALL OF HIS DIVINE AND HUMAN LOVE. SO, TODAY, WE CAN ALSO RECEIVE A PLENARY INDULGENCE FOR PRAYING THE ACT OF REPARATION, JESU DULCISSIME, SO, NOW, LET US KNEEL AND WE'LL PRAY THIS ACT OF REPARATION.

  1. Not to be silly or of disrespect, But is the Rosary Biblical? I thought the Bible says not to religiously do repetition of religious things. I thought The word says to put no others before Christ, I thought it said Jesus is the ONLY way the truth the life and that No One comes to the Father except through him. So we all must go through Jesus to God ONLY for forgiveness, salvation, for prayers to be answered, for healing etc etc. So to use other interceders is not Biblical, and infact God Bless you all it makes me cry on the inside. Never believe Mary(God Bless her though) Is ever to act on our behalf, or the Saints to do also. Jesus is the only way and that is Biblical. No offence and love to you all. I just ask you to read John 14:6, and Acts 2:38-39,( there are a lot of cross references to go with these, so i have not just made an interpretation to suit me) So put all pre disposed religious doctrinal teachings aside and be open to what the Bible says xx. The Saints and Mary did as God asked and i am grateful to them, but Jesus only can help as the before mentioned have no spiritual authority as that is Jesus-Gods Job alone

  2. Terrible seeing John 14:6 is not adhered to. I think you may love God, but heretic teachings as per Mary and saints is not of John 14:6 or ACTS 2:38. Follow Jesus not church indoctrination. God bless xx
