About First Congregational Church of Houston

so First Congregational Church was
founded in 1955 at a time in Houston when Jim Crow was still here and a lot
of people were being transferred to Houston for the oil industry from
somewhere up north and some of these transfers were looking for a liberal
progressive theological church that was engaged in social justice issues and
particularly at that time around racial issues so when they founded the church
in 55 they found it explicitly to be an open church church open to all races
which at that point was a radical concept and it’s something that the
church is carried on throughout its history.
